GVS Training: First Aid at Work (FAW) 3 Day Course in Barry

Who should attend: People who want to receive more advanced training, especially suited where a higher risk has been identified e.g. construction, factories or sporting activities

Duration: 3 days – Monday 30 April, Tuesday 1 May and Wednesday 2 May from 9am – 4pm each day (Attendance is required for the full duration of the course).

What will you learn:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider, including dealing with incidents in a safe manner
  • Dealing with a breathing
  • but unresponsive casualty
  • Dealing with a casualty who is having a seizure
  • Recognise cardiac arrest and perform CPR including the use of an AED
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with an airway obstruction
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with external bleeding.
  • Recognise and treat a casualty in shock
  • How to treat a casualty with minor injuries. (Burns cuts, bruises and splinters)
  • How to conduct a secondary survey on a casualty
  • Treat a casualty with fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with head injuries
  • How to deal with a casualty with suspected spinal injuries
  • Administer first aid to casualties with chest injuries
  • Provide first aid to a casualty with serious burns
  • Treat a casualty with eye injuries/sudden poisoning
  • Recognise and treat a casualty with anaphylaxis/suspected major illness (angina, heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetes)

Assessment: Multiple choice questions, and continuous observation by the trainer

Qualification: Successful candidates will receive FAW certification for which is valid for three years. The qualification complies with current HSE Legislation.

Physical ability: Candidates must confirm that they are fit and well enough to partake in the physical elements

ID: Photographic ID must be shown to the trainer on the first day of the course

Dress code: Suitable clothing for practical activities which involves lying on the floor
