RNIB ‘Employers with Vision’ Conference

27th November 2017
  • Only one in every four blind and partially sighted people is in work in the UK at the moment, compared with around three out of four of the general population.
  • Registered blind or partially sighted people with a degree or higher still only have the same chance of getting a job as someone with no qualifications in the general public.
  • Young blind and partially sighted people are twice as likely to not be in education, employment or training compared to other young people of the same age.

And yet

  • People with sight loss succeed in a wide variety of jobs across almost all employment sectors.
  • There is evidence to show that disabled employees take less than average sick leave, have low absentee rates and long tenures and employers describe them as loyal, reliable and hardworking.
  • The Westminster government funded Access to Work scheme can cover all the costs of providing specialist software, equipment and support for a blind or partially sighted employee.

Come and join the increasing number of employers of all sizes and sectors, who are positive about employing people with visual impairments, and actively contributing to the government’s aim of halving the employment gap that exists for disabled people.

The day will include expert speakers, personal case studies and practical exercises to provide the business case, best practice and personal insight into recruiting, employing and retaining productive blind and partially sighted staff.
