Summary:
This course specifically looks at the risks, harms and dangers associated with alcohol consumption for older people. The main aim of the course will be to allow participants to explore the holistic approach of harm reduction, and explore every aspect of an individual’s alcohol consumption and how we signpost appropriately.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Gain an in-depth knowledge of alcohol and consider the reasons for alcohol consumption- the ‘Who, What, Why’ principle
  • Competently calculate units against alcoholic drinks consumed
  • List side effects of excessive drinking and note the different risks associated with different age ranges
  • Gain confidence in understanding policies and procedures within their place of work/volunteering
  • Understand the holistic approach to harm reduction in relation to alcohol and older people
  • Confidentially discuss an individual’s alcohol consumption, and identify key harm reduction techniques. 

NewLink Wales Training Team: All of our trainers are experienced practitioners who have worked directly with individuals who misuse substances and are qualified assessors who maintain high contact with the substance misuse sector.
