The aim of this WCVA half-day course is to provide knowledge and understanding of data protection requirements, to ensure that organisations comply with the law and good practice.The Data Protection Act 1998 sets out a number of requirements that most organisations have a legal duty to comply with, including those working in the third sector. It is important that those working in your organisation are aware of what needs to be done to act lawfully in this area, avoiding potentially large fines for data breaches and ensuring that you protect your reputation By the end of the course, learners should:
– Be familiar with the 8 data protection principles set out in the Data Protection Act
– Be able to identify what information is classed as ‘personal data’ and apply that to their work setting
– Understand how to perform their role in a way that is compliant with data protection requirements
– Understand the legal obligations of a data controller
– Know how and when to report a data breach, if necessary
– Understand the relationship between data protection and confidentiality This course is suitable for those who handle personal information within their role, and those who are responsible for their organisation’s data protection compliance.
