This course is for staff from any agency either from Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan who may be working with children at risk of female genital mutilation
Course Content
To provide an overview of the practice of Female Genital Mutilation and gain an understanding of current research and the all Wales protocol.
This course aims
– To raise awareness of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a cultural practice and consider the impact of the practice on children
– To enable practitioners to identify children at risk of FGM and those children who may have had it performed
– To ensure practitioners are aware of the All Wales FGM Protocol and are competent and confident to fulfil their agency role in respect of the protocol and the All Wales Child Protection Procedures
– To give practitioners the opportunity to explore their own perceptions of FGM in a multi-disciplinary context using case studies
