What’s Stopping You From Being an Assembly Member?

Ensuring that people from a variety of backgrounds, with different experiences, and from all parts of society, are represented is important to democracy. The Wales Governance Centre is seeking participants for a new project that looks at the barriers facing people when making the decision to stand for election to the National Assembly for Wales – whether they eventually stand or not. The centre wants to discover what influences encourage or deter people when making that decision.

As well as people with prior experience of politics, the centre is keen to engage with people that have not undertaken a political role yet, for whatever reason. There are several opportunities to participate:

Online Survey

Focus Groups

Small focus groups will be held at the following locations. Participants will receive a small payment in appreciation of their time. You can register to attend by following this link.
19 Sept: Aberystwyth (Aberystwyth University, Medrus) 5:30-7:00
20 Sept: Caernarfon (Galeri) 5:30-7:00
21 Sept: Wrexham (Glyndŵr University) 5:30-7:00
26 Sept: Llanelli (Stradey Park Hotel) 5:30-7:00
27 Sept: Merthyr Tydfil (Castle Hotel) 5:30-7:00
28 Sept: Cardiff (tbc, Cardiff Bay) 5:30-7:00

You can take part in a face to face or phone interview by contacting the research team here.
