A new £1.2 million package of support to help pupils from Wales’ most deprived communities Welsh Government logosucceed at school and achieve their full potential will be announced today.

Speaking at a conference in Llandudno, Communities and Tackling Poverty Minister Huw Lewis will reveal the extra financial support which will go towards projects that support children to do well at school and improve family engagement in their children’s education.

Activity will include helping improve literacy and numeracy levels, providing extra support through mentors and encouraging pupils to study science, technology, engineering and maths.

The money is from the Welsh Government’s flagship Communities First programme that aims to narrow the education, economic and health gaps between Wales’ most deprived and more affluent areas. The programme is organised into 52 ‘clusters’ across the country.
