Join the Equality and Human Rights Network

This network - run in partnership with Race Equality First and Diverse Cymru - is open to any third sector organisation working in Cardiff on any area of Equality and Human Rights. We welcome new members.

Members can feed in views from people from disadvantaged communities and people facing discrimination in all areas of Cardiff.

The network discusses important Equality and Human Rights issues to change legislation, policy and practice together and make a difference to people’s lives.

We meet quarterly. Meetings include opportunities to:

  • Feed in stories, experiences and views from your service users and citizens on equality and human rights issues
  • Work together to jointly respond to key consultations and other opportunities to influence
  • Plan and run awareness raising campaigns and other work together
  • Take joint action to tackle inequalities
  • Share information on your events, campaigns, projects and work with other organisations

Between meetings we share these stories, information and joint work by email.

The next Equality and Human Rights Network meeting is:

Cardiff Third Sector Equality and Human Rights Network Next meeting - Have your say on mental health and well-being Hosted by C3SC and Diverse Cymru, this event is your opportunity to discuss what matters to you on mental health and wellbeing, focusing on the experiences of people facing inequality and solutions. Tuesday 12 February 2019 . 1:30 -4:15 pm @ Taff Housing Conference Room, 307- 315 Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff, CF5 1JD

Current priorities for the network, decided by members are:

  • Defending and advancing Human Rights – defending human rights, promoting human rights for all, gathering views and stories on human rights.
  • Education and community learning – building equality and human rights into teaching and the curriculum, community education, promoting cohesion and understanding in communities, tackling bullying in schools and education settings, supporting fair education for all.
  • Mental health and well-being – tackling discrimination, access to mental health support and services for different communities, inclusion and appropriateness of services, promoting awareness of mental health and equality, tackling stigma in communities and services, working together to improve services.

News and information

  • Cardiff Third Sector Equality and Human Right Network-Have your say on benefits, in work poverty and pension’s poverty. Wednesday, 26 June 2019 from 09:30 to 13:00 pm. Culture and Media Centre @Loudoun.This event focuses on the experiences of people facing inequality and solutions.The theme of the event is benefits, in-work poverty, and pension poverty. To find out more and book a space: Cardiff Third Sector Equality & Human Rights event on benefits & in work poverty

  • Following on from the update on the Human Rights Check UK project in March 2017, the government has now published their state report. The government prepared this national report and submitted it to the United Nations as part as part of the Universal Periodic Review process. You can read the government’s report on the state of human rights in the UK on the gov.uk website.

  • A report produced by the British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) with input from more than 175 civil society organisations, shows that the UK Government has failed to fully meet 81 out of 85 recommendations made by the United Nations in 2012 to improve domestic human rights protections.
