'Stop it Now! Wales' FREE child sexual abuse preventation training and resources

'Stop it Now! Wales' is a child sexual abuse prevention programme funded by the Welsh Government. They work to protect children and young people from sexual abuse by working with parents and carers, multi-agency professionals as well as members of the public through awareness raising and education.
They also offer a confidential helpline to those who are concerned about sexual abuse taking place on 0808 1000 900.
They cover the following areas in South Wales: Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Merthyr, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Monmouthshire, South Powys, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent.
As part of their agreed deliverables for the Welsh Government in 2012-13, they are currently offering the following child sexual abuse prevention activities across Wales, free of charge:
Parents Protect! sessions - 90-minute sessions to raise awareness and inform parents and carers on the facts around child sexual abuse and our responsibility to prevent it.
Course contents include:
- Understanding abuser behaviour
- How and why people sexually abuse children
- The barriers to identifying harmful behaviour and how to overcome them
- How sex offenders are managed in the community
- Positive actions adults can take to prevent child sexual abuse.
Parents Protect! Plus courses - 2 hours per week for 5 weeks to educate and build confidence in parents and carers on issues around child sexual abuse prevention, internet safety, sexual development in children and young people and positive preventative action.
Course contents include:
- Discussion and information around abuser behaviour, including why and how people sexually abuse children
- The behaviours and indicators of sexual abuse
- The barriers to identifying and preventing abuse and how to overcome them
- Sexual development in children and young people
- Internet safety
- The positive actions parents can take to prevent child sexual abuse
