Thanks to a £20,000 training grant awarded by the Arts Council of Wales, the Black Voluntary Sector Network Wales (BVSNW) is pleased to announce a new programme of professional development opportunities for Black and Minority Ethnic artists and creatives in Wales.
The NeA (Nea Ananse) programme will host over 10 courses delivered by highly trained experts from organisations such as Arts & Business Cymru, Cardiff Metropolitan University and Creative and Cultural Skills Wales.
Courses will focus on Networking – Finance – Leadership – Event Planning – Time Management – Pitching – Exhibiting – Marketing – Sponsorship – Business Planning. This grant means that BVSNW can offer courses at a flat fee of £20 saving participants potentially hundreds of pounds.
Here are the first three courses to take place in South Wales:
‘Planning Your Exhibition’ led by Melaneia Warwick on Friday 27th April 9:30am - 3pm at St David’s Hall, Cardiff CF10 1AH
Course Outline:
So you have made or are planning to make a body of artworks. Perhaps you are struggling to get the work ‘out there’ so that it can be seen and even bought. This is not an uncommon problem for artists and makers and often work can end up sitting on our studio floors. The ways in which we can exhibit our artworks is growing and this offers a positive range of solutions. The focus of this one-day course will be on unravelling the mystery of exhibiting your work by looking at the evergrowing possibilities for doing so. You will develop insights and take away some tools for ways forward. Come prepared to join in on this fun, active and focussed workshop. If you have any images of your artworks, bring those along too.
‘Networking For Creatives’ led by Melaneia Warwick on Friday 4th May 9:30am - 3pm at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea SA1 3RD
Course Outline:
Networking is not just about giving out lots of business cards and attending lots of networking meetings. It’s much more interesting than that. The definition and application of networking has grown: face-to-face networking, online networking, unplanned networking (it’s what you do every day). In this one-day workshop you will explore what networking is and how you can use it to grow your business. The focus will be on fun and engaging exercises that make use of your creative skills. You will go away with some extra networking tools and an increase in your confidence to be able to use them.
‘Unlocking the Secrets Behind Residencies & Grants’ led by Ivy Alvarez on Tuesday 15th May 10am - 3pm at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea SA1 3RD 2JA
Course Outline:
Residencies and grants are highly sought-after by artists and creatives, since it enables them to take time out to focus on their art. This workshop helps you to:
- Get over the fear of the application form
- Write a memorable project description
- Line up your referees and write an effective CV
- Select work for your writing sample
- Sustain your momentum by planning ahead
