Cardiff Libraries consultation: deadline 3 January 2012
- Tuesday, 20 December 2011
Cardiff Council is undertaking an exercise to shape the future design and direction of Cardiff Libraries, and would like your views on what that might look like.
Cardiff Libraries deliver library and information services to the citizens of Cardiff. In 2010/11 the service provided 47,697 access hours, delivered by approximately 128 FTE operational staff across 21 static service points, 2 mobile libraries, a part-time housebound service and a prison library.
However, to meet the challenge of customer expectations of access to multiple services in a 24/7 environment and to ensure continued relevance to local community needs, libraries must develop new and innovative approaches to service delivery. The service needs to develop from its current passive role, to one that proactively focuses on the delivery of reading services; provides opportunities for citizens to improve their skills and life chances; seeks to bridge the digital divide and supports growth of a business economy.
In last year’s public consultation exercise on Cardiff Libraries, non-users of the service reported that they would be likely to use libraries in the future if they also housed additional services including access to other Council (41.9%) and community services (37.6%), café facilities (40.1%) and adult education classes (39.5%). Indications were that multi-use buildings should be adopted wherever possible for future library, council and partnership developments.
Here is your opportunity to take part in a survey. Deadline date for the survey: 3 January 2012.
The survey asks whether you would be happy to participate in a follow up interview (by phone or visit to suit) and the survey gives you the opportunity to express an interest in this. There will be a workshop to discuss initial findings on 9 January 2012 between 10.00am-12.00pm and you are welcome to join the session. The purpose will be to help identify common ground and differences in our various activities and determine a manageable set of priorities.
