Vaughan Gething AM

Speaking at the launch of Cardiff Third Sector Council yesterday at the Pierhead Building, Mr Gething celebrated Cardiff’s diverse third sector and called on all organisations to sign up to a clear direction of travel.

In his keynote address, Mr Gething described his experience of volunteering in the third sector and pledged his support to

organisations who are “living out values on the ground”.

Noting the current economic problems, he told the 80 organisations present that this was a time for organisations to work together where possible, avoiding competition with each other through collaboration.

Vaughan Gething, AM for Cardiff South and Penarth, said:

"I’m glad to have been part of the launch event and look forward to working with Cardiff Third Sector Council as they support and develop new ways to work with third sector organisations throughout Cardiff.”

Other speakers, including Phil Jarrold, Deputy Chief Executive of WCVA and Jacqueline Bell, Chief Officer of Cardiff Third Sector Council, joined Mr Gething in calling for closer working.

Jacqueline Bell said: “The third sector continues to have a significant role in campaigning for the sake of vulnerable people in our communities. Keep campaigning.

“We want our members to have a fair chance when it comes to bidding for tenders but we also want to protect grants - the best way they can succeed during these difficult times is by working in partnership with other organisations. Let’s start working together.”
